Too much detergent leaves residue and too little leaves dirt. Answer five quick questions and get a starting dose for your load, expressed against the regular-load line on your own product.
A rule of thumb, not a replacement for the label. Doses are relative to the “regular load” line on your product, because concentration differs between brands.
How the Calculator Works
Detergents differ in concentration, so a fixed number of tablespoons would be wrong for many products. The calculator starts from the dose your label gives for a regular load and adjusts it for load size, soil and water hardness. Pods and sheets cannot be split, so those are rounded to whole units.
For the reasoning behind each adjustment, see our guides on dosing devices and using liquid detergent and dosing balls.
